Sometimes, all you really want in life is a 90's Mazda 5-door hatch styled by ex Porsche designers with THAT WING.
IT’S LIKE IF THE SIERRA COSWORTH WAS PRETTY!!!!
It’s probably not as fast as the Cossie, though, as the most powerful engine you could get in the Lantis Type R had 170 hp. Most had either the same engine as the Miata but mounted sideways because FWD, or a 2.0 litre V6 making 147 hp. None of those would be bad in a 90's hatchback. Apparently those V6s were super over-engineered as well, so people race these things. I’m not even a huge 90's car person, but I love these things. I’m sure they’re dang near impossible to find with the awesome wing, though.

Yeah, that little V6 is robust, it takes to forced induction quite well... I have always loved the styling in these. Thought about importing one actually... But good ones are almost as hard to come by as an unmolested Integra Type-R.

You can bid on a Mazdaspeed Lantis wing on Buyee right now! I’ve been roaming that site for Miata parts but this showed up in my general “Mazdaspeed” search. That said, lots of overpriced listings, lol.

I remember seeing these things (not with the glorious Cossie wing) in HK when my cousin lived there. Thought they were weird but cool looking. The headlamps were definitely an afterthought. I’m sure I’ve got some pictures of some on the streets in a shoebox somewhere .
